POST MODERNISM OR TRANSCENDENTALISM Published Writing #4

Define the concept of Idealism and explore the nature of Idealism in Hawthorne's masterpiece. Connect the theme of idealism and the concepts presented in the theme to that of our present day world. Where do you see our world as drawn to perfection?  In addition, How does Idealism defy the very nature of the transcendental spirit?

Idealism is a standard of perfection, and Idealists always desire for something idealized. In The Birthmark, which was wrote by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Aylmer was an idealist. He was a famous scientist. Not only he had a high standard for his own scientific products, but also, he wanted his wife to be perfect when he married Georgiana. He was disgusted with the birthmark in Georgiana’s face, and he thought it was a smudge for his wife. Therefore, Aylmer wanted to remove the birthmark to keep perfect for his wife. However, he finally removed the birthmark and life of his wife. In Hawthorne’s masterpiece, idealism does not exist. If people want to be perfect, there will be something else lost.
In the cosmetic hall, people may see the perfection when they want to have a more beautiful face or body. International Beauty Plastic Surgery Society of the second annual report showed that the global average of 15 million people did the plastic surgery in the last two years. Among them, South Korea was the largest per capita plastic surgery in the country, up to 1 / 77. 2010 data showed that Koreans made a total of 650,000 cases of plastic surgery (Ou 1). They want to make themselves ideal through the plastic surgery.
In contrast, transcendentalism pursues nature. Everyone is different because of the genes, and everyone has different beauty for themselves. But some idealists want to be perfect, so they choose the plastic surgery to change their face and body. It defies the very nature of the transcendental spirit. Like trees in park, they look good because there are gardeners pruning trees. But every tree looks like the same. On the other hand, wild trees look different, they grow naturally. So, everyone has their own beauty. Transcendentalists desire natural beauty, but idealists are not satisfied to the natural beauty, and they have a standard of perfection. Therefore, idealists want to change the natural beauty.
