" I couldn't believe
her story and go on living with Stanley" (Stella, 1232). This is the eleventh scene from A Streetcar Named Desire by Williams,
which is the final scene. In this
sentence, “her” is Stella’s sister, Blanche, and Stanley is Stella’s
husband. In this moment, Stella known
everything, and she could not stand anymore.
She could not believe what Blanche told to her, and she could not forgive
Stanley and go on living with Stanley.
It is all just an illusion, despite of Blanche said or Stanley behavior.
Firstly,
Blanche had lying been Stella. When
Blanche first arrived Stella’s house, she told Stella, “I was so exhausted by
all I’d been through my – nerves broke.
I was on the verge of – lunacy, almost! So Mr. Graves – Mr. Graves is
the high school superintendent – her suggested I take a leave of absence”
(Williams 1170). But the truth of
Blanche’s unemployment is “she did resign temporarily from the high school
because of her nerves! They kicked her
out of that high school before the spring term ended because she’d gotten mixed
up with seventeen-year-old boy” (Williams 1214). Secondly, Blanche told Stella there was a man
named Shep Huntleigh who has oil wells all over Texas, and this man loved her
(Williams 1195). However, Shep Huntleigh
was just a fake figure. The truth was in
Flamingo. “She couldn’t put on her act
anymore in Laure! They got wised up after two or three dates, with her and then
they quit, and she goes on to another” (Williams 1214). Finally, Stanley raped Blanche in the night
when the child of Stella and Stanley was born.
This is last thing to crush Stella, she could not believe Blanche and
Stanley anymore. She wanted that it all
just an illusion.
But all
illusions are from the desire for love.
Van Gogh is the famous artist. He
became a neuropathy finally. In his
life, his emotional life is also very complicated and failing. According to Zichi Li’s paper, in 1873 he
went to Gubel Art Company in London, and fell in love with the landlady
daughter Eugenia, but Eugenia did not love him.
In 1881, he was fail to proposed to the new widow's sister Kay
Voss. In 1882, he lived with the
pregnant who was abandoned and named Krasina Mariah Hornik, but he was unable
to earn 150 francs per month and could not get married. In 1884, he loved the village girl Margot, but
it still ended unfortunate. He also had
relationships with several prostitutes.
He had a homosexual tendency, Gauguin was one of his base friends, they
lived together many times (Li 4).
Because he desired to a love, he became unconscious, cut his ears, and
committed suicide finally. For him, he
wanted his life is just an illusion.
It is
all just an illusion. When people have a
strong desire for something, but it cannot be got. People will find it is all just an
illusion. When people very convince and
rely on another one, but he suddenly finds the person has been cheating him. People wants that is just an illusion. People often go to believe the truth when
they are not able to afford, but they
hope it all just an illusion.
